Polyendocrinopathy

Clinical information

Autoimmune polyendocrinopathies are characterised by the immunological destruction of endocrine tissues. They are characterised by the association of at least two endocrine diseases and the presence of one or more autoantibodies against endocrine organs as well as parietal cells of the stomach and striated muscle.

Diagnostics

The indirect immunofluorescence test (IIFT) on frozen sections of the organs adrenal cortex, ovary, placenta and testis is the main detection method for autoantibodies against steroid hormone-producing cells. The additional use of tissue sections of thyroid and parathyroid gland, pancreas and striated muscle enables parallel detection of numerous associated autoantibodies.
