Testosterone

Testosterone in saliva

The steroid hormone testosterone belongs to the group of male sex hormones (androgens). The detection of free testosterone  plays a role in the diagnosis and monitoring of diseases associated with an over- or under-production of testosterone. In male hypogonadism and impotence, long-lasting physical exertion and stress situations lead to low testosterone values. Raised testosterone values are found in testicular tumours, hirsutism or virilisation in women and short-term intensive physical strain.

In sports medicine, testosterone is alongside cortisol an important parameter for monitoring fitness levels.

The determination of testosterone in saliva with the Testosterone Saliva ELISA can be fully automated.
